Climate

Weather & Climate

This course is designed to be of interest to everyone. Our daily weather depends on the heat and water in the air around us at a given time. Climate is a broader concept, an average of the weather over time, and tells us about the state of the atmosphere globally.

We will explore how the atmosphere gains and loses heat, and how the heat balance is affected by water, carbon dioxide and other molecules in the atmosphere. We will look at past changes in the climate, in particular the ice ages, and discuss what we know about current global warming – and remedies.

I will introduce each topic with an illustrated talk followed by class discussion. Notes will be provided.
