All films shown on this course have English sub-titles and where possible I will use hard of hearing sub-titles. The films show a little of family life, each with distinct cultural differences. The films span in time from 1936 ‘Late Spring’, Japanese in black and white, with Noriko’s marriage, to 2017 Wolverhampton second generation Punjabi Indian British marriage, ‘The boy with the Topknot’. ‘Wadja’ illustrates Saudi Arabian relationships, when a young Saudi girl wants to ride a bicycle. ‘The Lunchbox’ is a comedy-drama set in Mumbai when Ila sends a lunchbox to her husband. While in ‘Cinema Paradiso’ a boy develops a love of films in war torn Sicily : following his life we see the world with Italian eyes. Each film will be followed by group discussion.
