Child Language Acquisition

The most extraordinary thing we do is speak. It is preposterously difficult and complex, and yet virtually all children have mastered it within four years – just try learning a musical instrument in that brief time: It can’t be done!
This course will look at how children tackle this enormous task; and in the process you will discover just how magnificent your achievement is every time you talk. We will not just explore the mental and physical processes involved in becoming able to speak, but also what language actually is, what it is for, and how children manipulate it in order to manage their environment and relationships.
