Introduction to Philosophy

This introductory programme will attempt to cover the range of philosophical areas including Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics and Aesthetics. We will look at how philosophy works on a personal and universal level. In the early part of the short course the group will be invited to explore argumentation as a tool for analysis. We will look at the work of specific philosophers such as Descartes, Locke, Hume, Kant, etc. under general topics such as empiricism, utilitarianism, etc. The work will be done in groups with readings, discussions and feedback from the groups, as well as an occasional lecture. The overall aim is to provide a stimulus for going forward.
