We studied Latin (sometimes unwillingly) at school many years ago and still find it useful today, when it helps us to understand the meanings of words and to study modern Romance languages. It is the language of science, technology, learning, law, medicine. We shall study different types of genuine Latin texts – prose, poetry, secular, sacred – to brush up our knowledge. To get the most out of the course, you need to have some grasp of Latin and be prepared to “have a go”. We shall use dictionaries, both English and Latin-English (please bring your own), your own resources as reminders of word-forms and items for sharing, and we shall relax with Latin-based games and puzzles.
