Musicals

Make Believe

‘Make Believe’ covers the development of musical theatre from its very beginning in classical (Greek and Roman) theatre to the present day and explores medieval mystery and morality plays, Tudor interludes and Jacobean court masques, ballad operas, song and supper clubs, music hall and Victorian burlesque.  The course finishes with the golden age, decline and re-invention of stage and screen musicals in the last one hundred years.  Each session is lavishly illustrated with audio and visual excerpts.  ‘Make Believe’ provides a unique opportunity for participants to analyse terrific songs, ingenious plots and unflagging inventiveness by leading creators and performers and express exactly what they think and why they think it!
